Why do we need the PREPARED-1 study?
There are common and widely used standard of care PAR treatments. These include corticosteroids, antihistamines, and allergen immunotherapies. While these nasal sprays and other allergic rhinitis treatments offer some relief, they have their limitations:
- Intranasal corticosteroid sprays may cause nosebleeds, be ineffective, or have an unpleasant taste or feel in the nasal passages and throat.
- Antihistamines may cause undue dryness, sleepiness, and fail to completely control symptoms.
- Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is an option for severe PAR cases, but many people find the long timeline of treatment unsustainable. As many as 90% of patients drop out by the end of the first year.
These realities and persistence of symptoms mean that medical science still has a way to go to conquer PAR.
