But don’t delay — space is limited!

Do you wake up in the middle of the night because of an itchy, runny nose?

Ever have to miss work or school because you can’t stop sneezing?

Do you feel like you have a forever cold?

If you live with cold-like or allergy symptoms most days of the week throughout the year, you may be dealing with more than a sinus infection, sinusitis, or mere seasonal allergies. It might be Perennial Allergic Rhinitis (PAR).

Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is a condition characterized by a runny nose, congestion, sneezing, itchy face and eyes, itchy sore throat, dry cough, and fatigue that affects about 400 million* people globally. Most people with AR experience seasonal allergies, especially in the spring.

Those with PAR have symptoms most days for more than 12 weeks a year. Much of the time, these symptoms can last for hours or even days at a time.

80% of patients with allergic rhinitis report difficulty sleeping and increased daytime fatigue, sometimes with impaired cognitive functioning. This contributes to 2M missed school days and 6M lost workdays annually.*

Why do we need the PREPARED-1 study?

There are common and widely used standard of care PAR treatments. These include corticosteroids, antihistamines, and allergen immunotherapies. While these nasal sprays and other allergic rhinitis treatments offer some relief, they have their limitations:

  • Intranasal corticosteroid sprays may cause nosebleeds, be ineffective, or have an unpleasant taste or feel in the nasal passages and throat.
  • Antihistamines may cause undue dryness, sleepiness, and fail to completely control symptoms.
  • Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is an option for severe PAR cases, but many people find the long timeline of treatment unsustainable. As many as 90% of patients drop out by the end of the first year.

These realities and persistence of symptoms mean that medical science still has a way to go to conquer PAR.

What is a clinical research study?

A clinical research study is conducted to learn if a new drug, vaccine, booster, treatment, or method is safe and effective. Clinical research studies, also known as clinical trials, follow strict scientific standards and regulations to ensure they produce the best data for health care decision making and protect the participants.

What happens if I volunteer?

To join our study, you must read and sign an informed consent document to show that you understand the study and what’s required. A study doctor will explain the study’s procedures, possible benefits and risks, and answer any questions prior to you signing the form. We also encourage you to speak with your doctor, family and other trusted sources to help you decide if this research study is right for you. After you sign the consent form, the study doctor and staff will perform some tests to make sure that you qualify to participate.

If you qualify, you will track usage of study medications and attend scheduled office visits for testing and to answer questions. This is all explained in the informed consent form.

*In a research study, the participants may receive investigational study product or may receive an inactive substance, or placebo, depending on the study design. Participants receive study-related care from a doctor/research team for the duration of the study. For studies that offer compensation, reasonable payments will be made for participation. The length of the study may vary.
